We cannot live a seasonal life connected to the natural rhythms of the earth without actually getting outside into nature on a regular basis. Like anything else, we have to make it a habit and a priority in our lives.

Thankfully, it doesn't have to be difficult to do or to fit into busy schedules.

Simply go for a walk. Not a walk to get anywhere in particular. Not a walk for exercise. A simple walk to take in the natural world around you. Even if you live in a big city, find a park or some place where there is more nature than man-made. Take a walk and intentionally take time to notice the natural world as it is presented in your local area.

Leave your phone at home if you can, if you can’t, leave it in your pocket - no talking on the phone or texting during this walk, please. The object of this walk is to connect with nature not Facebook or work. If you want to take someone along on the walk with you - that’s awesome and a great way to connect with nature and a loved one but this is not the time for the use of technology beyond perhaps taking a photo.

Look at trees, plants, animals, clouds, stars, insects, etc. Take notes, draw pictures, take photos. Connect with and notice what is happening to the ground and in the sky. What’s happening in the natural world at this moment in time? When you’re done with your walk, record your thoughts and observations in your journal.

This doesn’t have to be a long walk (though it certainly can be) just taking the time to notice the natural world around you will help open you up to the natural cycles of the earth more. Taking time to be in nature automatically makes seasonal living easier and part of your routine.
